Yes, you read that right... Out of all the places in the world, Helen and I are going on a girl's trip to Budapest! It's not just because we really wanted to go to Budapest though, but because Helen's helping me move into my new apartment! 🤩
Today was a beautiful day, and I'm so lucky that my friends and I from Budapest live close to each other both in Budapest and in Norway! Sarah, Fredrik and I all had the day off from work, so we decided to take the dogs to the beach. Seeing as both Phoebe and Ollie are rescues from Hungary, neither one of them had ever been to a beach before! They loved it, though, an spent maybe two hours chasing a ball and being confused when they got their paws wet ♥
When we were finished at the beach, we all went back to Fredrik's place and ate dinner before Sarah had to leave. She lives a little further away from us, but it was fun to have a little mini reunion in Norway!
Hello world! I just got back to Budapest from visiting my family in Canada and I'm already going to Norway tomorrow. I should be packing (I know...), but I didn't bring my computer to Canada, so I just wanted to pop in and give you a quick update on my life for the past two weeks ♥
While I was in Canada I spent a lot of time with my family, of course! I only see my brothers maybe once or twice a year, so but we are super close so I love hanging out with them. My grandparents were also visiting the same time I was, so it was nice to have the whole family together ♥
I also borrowed/stole my mom's friend's dog for a few days. His name is Rocky and he's a rescue from the U.S.. He was left in a backyard for two years so he's a little nervous sometimes, but he really is the sweetest dog in the world. I just fell in love with him right away!
A lot of time was spent by the pool and in the jacuzzi. Like, an embarrassing amount of time...
My mom, her friend Pat, and I went to the pride festival in downtown Toronto, and it was incredible! So much love, so much positive energy, lots of colour, lots of happy people, and of course we had amazing weather. Love should be celebrated every day!
I also got to spend some time with my friends from high school ♥ Amanda and I went to Springridge Farm to see the goats hahahha, and we also went out for breakfast at Kora's. Kora's is a super cute breakfast/lunch place where you can get pancakes, toast, fruit, waffles and of course bacon with everything. It's delicious!
I also went to the Sound of Music festival with Graeme, Justin, Anthony, and Ryan, and went to see "Secret Life of Pets 2" with Meena when I visited him in Waterloo.
Finally, the day before I left, I got my hair done. And, just like last year, I went blonde! I didn't really like it last year, but my hairdresser made it a warmer blonde this time and I really love it! My hair needed a little update, and this was perfect ♥
So there you have it! I wish I could've stayed two more weeks, but now it's back to reality as I start working in four days...
Gratulerer med dagen! 🥳 Happy birthday! 🥳
Yesterday was the Norwegian constitution day, which means good food, spending time with people you love, and lots of champagne.
After a few hours, a few people went to the ANSA (association for Norwegians studying abroad) party, and Hege, Fredrik, Sarah, Vilde and I took the bus downtown and went to Iguana to eat dinner.
All in all it was a super fun day! I cannot say it enough how glad I am to have met the people I go to school with here, both Norwegian and from other countries. This was the first of hopefully many celebrations and days we'll spend together, and I'm super excited to make more memories ♥
Happy Wednesday, everyone!
I'm procrastinating, but I just wanted to take some time to update you on this semester's exam season. ♥ So far, I have had the histology 1 written exam and the histology 1 practical exam, two biomathematics midterms, learning techniques final assignment, animal welfare essay, animal welfare exam, three (!!!) botany midterms, and a chemistry exam. So far, I have failed 2 of the botany midterms (retake tomorrow which I'm procrastinating), and I'm waiting for my result in chemistry and animal welfare, but I have passed EVERYTHING else! And, that's only 2 fails out of 11, and I have a really good feeling about the other exams! 🤩 luckily there are no more midterms!
I'm so happy about the way things are going because I changed the way I study this semester 🥳 I'm trying my best to finish all my exams before june 12th, because then I get to travel on the 13th woohoo!
This is it, this is the last week of my first year as a veterinary student! How crazy is that?!
From visiting Budapest with my dad and my brothers...
...to officially becoming a veterinary student and making new friends
...to adopting Phoebe and watching her grow up
...to going on a ski trip to france with people from all over the world
...to picnics on margit island to de-stress after midterms
...to my first international day
...to the final exam season of this year
...and everything in between! ♥
I truly am so grateful for everything I've learned and experienced this year, and I'm so thankful for the people I've gotten to know. This university really is like one huge family! I know I never have to worry about being alone, or not understanding something, because my friends are always there to help me and support me; just like I'm always there to help and support them. We've made countless dinners together, given each other peptalks when we've needed it the most, argued, laughed, cried, had movie nights and surprise birthday parties, pancake sundays and taco tuesdays, sleepovers and all-nighters.
We're now 20% veterinarians and, I know I should be excited to go home for the summer, but I'm actually kind of sad that I won't get to see some of these people until september... We've all worked so hard, and I'm already excited to start 2nd year! ♥♥♥
It's May, and May means exam season. I've had a couple of exams/tests/midterms/whatever already this semester, and I'm just now realizing that I never even wrote about my first ever exam season! Well, this is a vet school blog, so why in the world would I not talk about exam season?
Maybe I avoided talking about it because it was horrendous? Hahha...
Okay, in all fairness... My exam stress was my own fault, but I'm doing A LOT better this exam season! I will tell you all about in the next few days (this exam season and the one from 1st semester), but I have an exam tomorrow so I have to study. ;)
One of my favourite parts about being back in Norway is definitely that I get to see this beautiful lady! Serine and I have been friends for many many years and we always go out for sushi or at least order sushi for takeout when I'm home. This time was no different ♥️
It's crazy to think that since meeting Serine, I've lived in Canada, Denmark, Bolivia, Belize, and Hungary, but every time we hang out it's like no time has passed at all. She's the best 🤩
Introducing the newest member of the family... Khaleesi! ♥
...she's not mine (don't worry mom), but my best friend just got her a couple of weeks ago, so she's kind of my family too!
We went to Anne's parents' camping wagon, about an hour from home, as they've had it for about 11 years but I've never been. And, I've know Anne and her family for about 20 years, so it's kind of weird that this was my first time visiting??
Anyway, it was really nice to get away for the day! I've gotten so used to the city life in Budapest with sirens, big apartment buildings, trains and buses everywhere, and people everywhere, so it was good to get some peace and enjoy nature again.
It's been 20C in Budapest for the past two weeks, so I was super happy to see snow in Norway! It wasn't a lot, but still enough to feel like winter is not completely over yet. Khaleesi also loved the snow, and it was her first time seeing snow! She just ran around, tried to eat it, licked the ground, and explored the area. She's so freaking cute! ♥
Who am I?
Hi, I'm Ine! I'm 22 years old, from Norway, and I currently live in Budapest, Hungary, with my dogs, Baltus and Phoebe. I've wanted to become a veterinarian for as long as I can remember, and I'm currently a 2nd year vet student at UNIVET. I'll mainly be writing about my experience as a veterinary student in Budapest, but also about my day to day life and my experience of life in Budapest.
