Happy Wednesday, everyone!
I'm procrastinating, but I just wanted to take some time to update you on this semester's exam season. ♥ So far, I have had the histology 1 written exam and the histology 1 practical exam, two biomathematics midterms, learning techniques final assignment, animal welfare essay, animal welfare exam, three (!!!) botany midterms, and a chemistry exam. So far, I have failed 2 of the botany midterms (retake tomorrow which I'm procrastinating), and I'm waiting for my result in chemistry and animal welfare, but I have passed EVERYTHING else! And, that's only 2 fails out of 11, and I have a really good feeling about the other exams! 🤩 luckily there are no more midterms!
I'm so happy about the way things are going because I changed the way I study this semester 🥳 I'm trying my best to finish all my exams before june 12th, because then I get to travel on the 13th woohoo!
This is it, this is the last week of my first year as a veterinary student! How crazy is that?!
From visiting Budapest with my dad and my brothers...
...to officially becoming a veterinary student and making new friends
...to adopting Phoebe and watching her grow up
...to going on a ski trip to france with people from all over the world
...to picnics on margit island to de-stress after midterms
...to my first international day
...to the final exam season of this year
...and everything in between! ♥
I truly am so grateful for everything I've learned and experienced this year, and I'm so thankful for the people I've gotten to know. This university really is like one huge family! I know I never have to worry about being alone, or not understanding something, because my friends are always there to help me and support me; just like I'm always there to help and support them. We've made countless dinners together, given each other peptalks when we've needed it the most, argued, laughed, cried, had movie nights and surprise birthday parties, pancake sundays and taco tuesdays, sleepovers and all-nighters.
We're now 20% veterinarians and, I know I should be excited to go home for the summer, but I'm actually kind of sad that I won't get to see some of these people until september... We've all worked so hard, and I'm already excited to start 2nd year! ♥♥♥
It's May, and May means exam season. I've had a couple of exams/tests/midterms/whatever already this semester, and I'm just now realizing that I never even wrote about my first ever exam season! Well, this is a vet school blog, so why in the world would I not talk about exam season?
Maybe I avoided talking about it because it was horrendous? Hahha...
Okay, in all fairness... My exam stress was my own fault, but I'm doing A LOT better this exam season! I will tell you all about in the next few days (this exam season and the one from 1st semester), but I have an exam tomorrow so I have to study. ;)
One of my favourite parts about being back in Norway is definitely that I get to see this beautiful lady! Serine and I have been friends for many many years and we always go out for sushi or at least order sushi for takeout when I'm home. This time was no different ♥️
It's crazy to think that since meeting Serine, I've lived in Canada, Denmark, Bolivia, Belize, and Hungary, but every time we hang out it's like no time has passed at all. She's the best 🤩
Introducing the newest member of the family... Khaleesi! ♥
...she's not mine (don't worry mom), but my best friend just got her a couple of weeks ago, so she's kind of my family too!
We went to Anne's parents' camping wagon, about an hour from home, as they've had it for about 11 years but I've never been. And, I've know Anne and her family for about 20 years, so it's kind of weird that this was my first time visiting??
Anyway, it was really nice to get away for the day! I've gotten so used to the city life in Budapest with sirens, big apartment buildings, trains and buses everywhere, and people everywhere, so it was good to get some peace and enjoy nature again.
It's been 20C in Budapest for the past two weeks, so I was super happy to see snow in Norway! It wasn't a lot, but still enough to feel like winter is not completely over yet. Khaleesi also loved the snow, and it was her first time seeing snow! She just ran around, tried to eat it, licked the ground, and explored the area. She's so freaking cute! ♥
Yesterday, right after I got off the plane in Norway, I got a message on instagram. It was from Kine, a girl I had met at the international veterinary seminar in Budapest in March, and she asked me if I wanted to help out with lambing at a farm. How freaking cool is that? I've ALWAYS wanted to help out during lambing season, but I never knew where to go or who to contact.. So I got super excited when she invited me to help out!
I got to milk some of the sheep and feed the lambs that had trouble drinking on their own, got to play with the lambs, helped with getting the sheep and their lambs onto the transport truck, kept the sheep in place as my Kine pulled the lambs out, and got to observe everything that has to do with lambing. I had so much fun, and I hope I get to do it again next year! ♥
Aaaaah, I'm finally going home!! I haven't been home since November, and I cannot freaking wait! So far, I don't have a lot of plans, but it'll be nice to just relax, not think about school for once, be with family, and visit my friends. ♥
What are your plans for the easter holiday?
This Saturday was spent doing nothing but relax, at the beautiful Margit Island... and it was amazing. We got a group of people together, brought blankets, snacks, speakers, drinks, and dogs, and just hung out all day. I haven't been this relaxed for several weeks, so it was really nice to just hang out and talk all day.
I'm still in relax mode, and I plan on doing absolutely nothing for the rest of the weekend, so I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. ;)
Today was a good day. Today was a really good day!
Fredrik, Sarah and I started the day with waffles, prosecco and some studying. Amazing combination, if you ask me! We have a botany midterm in a few days, where we have to learn the latin name, english name, latin family name, habitat, type of poison, the actual poisonous compound(s), and the specific symptoms for 38 plants. Yes, 38... It's not THAT much, but we just have so many other school related things that need to be done, so for me it's 38 too many. 😝
After studying for a bit, we decided to take the dogs to City Park. The weather has been super warm the past few days, so it was really nice to take a break and enjoy the sun! We were also watching Tarzan (my friend's dog) for the day, and he loved hanging out with Baltus and Phoebe.
Look at his face! How freaking cute is he?!?!
Fredrik wanted to have an early night, so Sarah and I went back to my apartment. We were supposed to study, but I think we were both exhausted form all the latin so instead we made cookies, crashed on the couch and watched Grey's Anatomy. ♥️
Who am I?
Hi, I'm Ine! I'm 22 years old, from Norway, and I currently live in Budapest, Hungary, with my dogs, Baltus and Phoebe. I've wanted to become a veterinarian for as long as I can remember, and I'm currently a 1st year vet student at UNIVET. I'll mainly be writing about my experience as a veterinary student in Budapest, but also about my day to day life and my experience of life in Budapest.
